RE: The tariff classification of a butterfly wing collage from Central African Republic.

Dear Ms. Gregory:

In your letter dated October 6, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The submitted sample is a collage made of butterfly wings. The butterfly wings are cut and attached to a paper backing. The item is a representation of a bird perched on a branch.

The applicable subheading for the butterfly wing collage will be 9701.90.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Paintings, drawings and pastels, executed entirely by hand... collages and similar decorative plaques Other. The rate of duty will be free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
