Dear Mr. Smith:

In your letter dated February 26, 1996 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The machine is a general purpose mechanical press. It may be used to punch, bend, die stamp, fold, etc. (depending upon the die tooling used) aluminum and light metal. The person installs the die, inserts the metal and then steps on the floor pedal to perform the operation.

The rate of duty will be 4.4 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
