RE: The tariff classification of knit sweaters from Norway.

Dear Mr. Sederholm:

In your letter dated September 25, 1995, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The five submitted sweaters are constructed from 100 percent wool knit fabric which contains 4 stitches per two centimeters counted in the horizontal direction. All five sweaters feature long sleeves with rib knit cuffs; left over right closures; and rib knit waistbands.

Style 7555L06L has a partial front opening with three metal clasp closures; a split rib knit crew neckline; and woven fabric trim. Style 7574LHSL has a partial front opening with one metal clasp closure; a V-neckline; and woven fabric trim. Style 7574FSGL has a full front opening with seven metal button closures; a rib knit placket; and a rib knit crew neckline. Style 7574FLSHXL has a full front opening with six metal clasp closures; a V-neckline; and woven fabric trim. Style 7591FMSHL has a full front opening with seven metal button closures; a rib knit crew neckline; and woven fabric trim .

You have indicated in your letter that the suffix A indicates a sweater with an O-neck; L indicates a sweater with claps; F indicates a cardigan with buttons; FL indicates a cardigan with claps and FM indicates a cardigan with buttons and trim. Additional suffixes indicate color and size.

As requested, your samples will be returned.

The applicable subheading for Styles 7555L06L, 7574LHSL, 7574FSGL, 7574FLSHXL, and 7591FMSHL will be 6110.10.2010, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States Annotated (HTS), which provides for sweaters, pullovers, sweatshirts, waistcoats (vests) and similar articles, knitted and crocheted: of wool or fine animal hair: other: sweaters: men's. The duty rate will be 16.9 percent ad valorem.

Styles 7555L06L, 7574LHSL, 7574FSGL, 7574FLSHXL, and 7591FMSHL fall within textile category designation 445. Based upon international textile trade agreements, products of Norway are not subject to a visa requirement or quota restraints. quota restraints.

The designated textile and apparel category may be subdivided into parts. If so, visa and quota requirements applicable to the subject merchandise may be affected. Since part categories are the result of international bilateral agreements which are subject to frequent renegotiations and changes, to obtain the most current information available, we suggest that you check, close to the time of shipment, the Status Report On Current Import Quotas (Restraint Levels), an internal issuance of the U.S. Customs Service, which is available for inspection at your local Customs office.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
