RE: The tariff classification of printed circuit board connectors from Mexico

Dear Ms. Crawford:

In your letter dated January 15, 1996, on behalf of AMP, Inc., you requested a tariff classification ruling.

As indicated by the submitted samples, these connectors are the type which are used with printed circuit boards. The samples consist of one "male" connector and one "female" connector. In both cases, the connectors are incorporated in a plastic housing containing contacts which enable the units to be plugged into a board. You indicate that the following part numbers, which are represented by the samples, are the subject of this ruling request: 787201-3; 787201-4; 787202-3; 787202-4; 787203-3; 787203-4; 787650-3; 787650-4; 787651-3; 787651-4; 787652-3; 787652-4.

The applicable tariff provision for the printed circuit board connectors will be 8536.69.0040, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States Annotated (HTSUSA), which provides for electrical apparatus for ... making connections in or to electrical circuits, other than lamp holders, for a voltage not exceeding 1000 V. The general rate of duty will be 4.3 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 CFR 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist David Curran at 212-466-5680.

Sincerely,
