I maintain my FAQs (four in all) in HTML as the base document. I use
Lynx to format the text for the text (flat) version. I have to make
sure to use a consistent (and slightly odd) format in the HTML
document so that the text version comes out looking good. I also use
some simple scripts to massage the HTML file before it is Lynxed and
to massage the text file afterwards.

I use Emacs (with a modified HTML-helper-mode) and Lynx on Solaris.
