RE: The tariff classification of Carbidopa (CAS-28860-95-9) in dosage/tablet form, from India

Dear Mr. Moynihan:

In your letter dated April 10, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The subject product, Carbidopa is a medicinal preparation containing Carbidopa, as the active ingredient. It is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The applicable subheading for the Carbidopa imported in dosage/tablet form will be 3004.90.9140, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Medicaments consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses or in forms or packings for retail sale: Other: Other: Other: Medicaments primarily affecting the central nervous system: Other.” The rate of duty will be free.
