RE: The tariff classification of a part of a GPS antenna from China.

Dear Mr. Nielson:

In your letter dated April 1, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample which you submitted is being returned as requested.

The merchandise under consideration is the base plate of a GPS antenna, part number P00382. This plastic base plate, which is a component of various vehicle tracking antenna models, is specially designed to house the active components of a GPS antenna for use in radio navigational aid systems.

The applicable subheading for this base plate will be 8529.10.4080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the apparatus of headings 8525 to 8528: Antennas and antenna reflectors of all kinds; parts suitable for use therewith: Radar, radio navigational aid and radio remote control: Other. The rate of duty will be Free.
