RE: The tariff classification of Propranolol (CAS-525-66-6) imported in dosage/tablet form, from India

Dear Mr. Moynihan:

In your letter dated February 15, 2008 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

Propranolol in tablet form is a medicinal preparation containing Propranolol, a cardiac depressant drug indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris, as the active ingredient.

The applicable subheading for Propranolol, imported in dosage form, will be 3004.90.9120, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Medicaments consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses or in forms or packings for retail sale: Other: Other: Other: Cardiovascular medicaments.” The rate of duty will be free.
