RE: The tariff classification of Category 5 Patch Cable from China

Dear Mr. Money:

In your letter dated January 11, 2008, on behalf of Integregrated Network Cable, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The samples which you submitted are being returned as requested.

The item concerned is a Category 5 Patch Cable (530-01 GN). The cable consists of eight individually insulated copper wires, in a twisted-pair configuration encased in an insulated jacket. There are RJ45 connectors on each end of the cable. This cable measures approximately 12 inches in length.

This cable is used with computers and computer equipment to allow for the transfer/communication of information/data. This particular cable may be used to connect an individual computer to a hub, switch or router.

The applicable subheading for the Category 5 Patch Cable (530-01 GN) will be 8544.42.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Insulated wire, cable: Other electric conductors, for a voltage not exceeding 1,000V: Fitted with connectors: Other: Of a kind used for telecommunications”. The rate of duty will be free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Steve Pollichino at 646-733-3008.
