RE: The tariff classification of a folding mesh cube from China

Dear Ms. Davidson:

In your letter dated February 21, 2007, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The submitted sample is identified as a “Natural Canvas Box” (SKU# 10042069/ Item# M19-B ). It is a collapsible, open box that measures approximately 12”W x 6”H x 12”D and is constructed of natural cotton canvas over a high-density fiberboard. A clear plastic sheeting panel that measures approximately 9”W x 3”H allows for viewing into the interior of the item. A removable square panel can be placed in the bottom for support. You indicate that the box can be used for storing sweaters, hosiery, accessories, or linens.

The applicable subheading for the folding mesh cube will be 6307.90.9889, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other made up textile articles, other. The rate of duty will be 7% ad valorem.
