RE: The tariff classification of a socket set from China.

Dear Ms. Laskavy:

In your letter dated February 14, 2007, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The Industrial Quality SAE Socket Set (SKU# 3994) you describe in your supplemental submission dated February 27, 2007, contains the following items:

17” single piece ratchet
4” extension
8” extension
18” sliding bar
Sixteen sockets ranging in size from 7/8’’ to 2” Metal carrying case with fitted compartments for each item

The applicable subheading for the socket set will be 8204.20.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for hand-operated spanners and wrenches (including torque meter wrenches but not including tap wrenches); socket wrenches, with or without handles, drives and extensions; base metal parts thereof: socket wrenches, with or without handles, drives and extensions, and parts thereof. The rate of duty will be 9% ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
