RE: The tariff classification of WSA 1855A, a housing to a water treatment system from China

Dear Mr. Coe:

In your letter dated August 3, 2006 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The item under consideration is model WSA 1855A, a housing portion to a water treatment system. The item is made of stainless steel welded into an oval form measuring approximately 6” in diameter by 8 ¾ “ long. WSA 1855A is specifically cut to length and designed to slide into a groove of gaskets of the water treatment system.

The applicable subheading for the WSA 1855A, a housing to a water treatment system will be 8421.99.0040, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Parts: Other: Parts of machinery and apparatus for filtering or purifying water. The rate of duty will be free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
