RE: The tariff classification of multimedia video projectors.

Dear Ms. Simon:

In your letter dated March 16, 2006 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The items in question are multimedia video projectors designed to project video images from multiple originating sources. They are denoted as the Sharp XV-Z12000U, the Sharp XV-Z2000, the Sharp PGB-10S and the Panasonic PT-AE900U models. Models XV-Z12000U and the XV-Z2000 models are DLP (digital light processing) types and models PGB-10s and PT-AE900U are LCD type projectors.

Each projector can display video images from a variety of originating video sources and they do not incorporate any video reproducing or recording capability. They are completely compatible with various video signals such as NTSC, PAL and SECAM. HQ Rulings 963181, 963207, 964063 and 964605 provide guidance in this matter. Classification will be accordingly.

The applicable subheading for the specified models of video projectors will be 8528.30.6601, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Reception apparatus for television, whether or not incorporating radiobroadcast receivers or sound or video recording or reproducing apparatus; video monitors and video projectors: Video projectors: Color: With a flat panel screen: Other: With a video display diagonal not exceeding 34.29cm. The rate of duty will be free.

Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Michael Contino at 646-733-3014.
