RE: The tariff classification of an amplifier cover from China

Dear Ms. Carpenter:

In your letter dated March 2, 2006, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The submitted sample is identified as an “Amplifier Cover.” It is constructed of 100% polyester woven textile fabric. It measures approximately 20½”W x 22”H x 18½”D and features a rectangle-shaped opening with a flap on the top. You indicate that your style numbers will vary because the cover will be imported in various sizes and with various options. One option includes zippered pockets to hold the foot pedals and other miscellaneous cords. You state that another option is to add padding for extra protection. Item numbers range from 091000-091900 as well as AMP001 – AMP006. This ruling applies only to those styles that are essentially rectangular in shape as this one is.

The applicable subheading for the amplifier cover will be 6307.90.9889, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other made up textile articles, other. The rate of duty will be 7 percent ad valorem.

Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Mitchel Bayer at 646-733-3102.
