RE: The tariff classification of doors from Mexico

Dear Mr. Gomez:

In your letter dated April 23, 2004, on behalf of John Sterling Corp., you requested a tariff classification ruling.

You inquired regarding the classification of mirror sliding doors with aluminum framing and mirror sliding doors with steel framing.

You also inquired regarding the classification of “frameless bifold” mirror doors.

In addition, you inquired regarding the classification of vinyl sliding doors with aluminum framing and vinyl sliding doors with steel framing.

Photographs of the products were included in your ruling request.

The applicable subheading for the vinyl sliding doors with aluminum or steel framing will be 3925.20.0010, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for builders’ ware of plastics, not elsewhere specified or included: doors, windows and their frames and thresholds for doors: doors and door frames. The rate of duty will be 5.3 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.

With regard to the mirror sliding doors with aluminum or steel framing and the “frameless bifold” mirror doors, we do not have sufficient information to issue a ruling.

If you wish to receive a ruling on these products, please submit the additional information indicated below.

For each of these items, please indicate whether the mirror portion of the product consists of glass or plastics.

For each of the mirror doors, please indicate the unit value of the product. The unit value is the price at which a single article is sold by the foreign firm to the American importer.

Please indicate the percentage by value of the mirror portion and the percentage by value of the steel or aluminum portion for each of the mirror doors.

In addition, please indicate the percentage by weight of the mirror component and the percentage by weight of the steel or aluminum component in each of these products.

Please indicate the precise function performed by the aluminum or steel components in each of these articles.

Do the “frameless bifold” products contain any aluminum or steel?

Is there any material in the “frameless bifold” mirror doors other than the mirror portion?

If so, please identify any other components in these products and indicate the function of these components within each door.

When this information is available regarding the mirror doors, you may wish to consider resubmission of your request on these items.

If you resubmit the request, please resubmit a copy of your original letter and attachments including the photographs of the doors, along with the additional information requested in this notice.
