RE: The tariff classification of gloves from China.

Dear Mr. Gonzalez:

In your letter dated October 8, 2002, you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Intersport Fashions West, Inc. The submitted sample will be returned as per your request.

The provided sample, style name “Mesh Tex Glove”, is a road motorcycle-riding glove with a complete palmside from fingertips to wrist constructed of a synthetic leather. The backside of the glove and palmside gauntlet is made of a lined mesh fabric. Synthetic leather overlays are found at the palmside and backside fingers and the base of the palm. The glove features a molded plastic insert at the backside knuckle area, a backside wrist strap which is secured by hook and loop fasteners, knitted fabric fourchettes, and a gauntlet cuff.

The applicable subheading for the “Mesh Tex Glove” will be 6216.00.5420, HTS, which provides for Gloves, mitten and mitts: other: of man-made fibers: other: without fourchettes . . . other. The duty rate will be 21cents per kilogram plus 10.5 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
