RE: The tariff classification of 2-Butyn-1-ol (CAS # 764-01-2) from Japan

Dear Mr. Chivini:

In your letter dated October 30, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

2-Butyn-1-ol, also known as 2-Butynyl alcohol, is an unsaturated monohydric alcohol used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.

The applicable subheading for 2-Butyn-1-ol will be 2905.29.9000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Acyclic alcohols and their halogenated, sulfonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives: Unsaturated monohydric alcohols: Other: Other.. The rate of duty will be 3.7 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
