RE: The tariff classification of a Golf Ball Monogrammer Set, and a Golf Stoke Counter from Taiwan.

Dear Ms. Young.

In your letter dated December 10, 1998 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client Meijer Inc.

The samples submitted were a Golf Ball Monogrammer Set (item #869757), and a Golf Stroke Counter (item#869756). The monogrammer set contains plastic alphabet stamps, steel press, allen key, plastic monogram ribbon and clear liquor. The stoke counter has ten plastic beads strung onto a textile cord with clip on one end. The samples will be returned as per your request.

The applicable subheading for the Golf Ball Monogrammer Set will be 8205.59.5560, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Handtools not elsewhere specified or included: Other: Other: Other. The rate of duty will be 5.3% ad valorem. The applicable subheading for the Golf Stroke Counter will be 3926.90.3500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Beads, bagels and spangles, not strung (except temporarily) and not set; articles thereof, not elsewhere specified or included: Other. The rate of duty will be 6.5% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
