RE: The tariff classification of brass sanitary ware from Taiwan

Dear Mr. Wittman:

In your letter dated January 8, 1998, received in this office on January 21, 1998, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The merchandise is brass sanitary ware and mountings. The items include: the BA111PB Towel Bar 24 inches; the BA112PB Towel Bar, 18 inches; the BA114PB Towel Ring; the BA115PB Soap Dish; the BA116PB Toothbrush/Tumbler Holder; the BA117PB Robe Hook; the BA118PB Toilet Paper Holder. Each of these items is made of brass with a porcelain trim.

The applicable subheading for the towel bars, towel rings and robe hook will be 8302.50.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for hat- racks, hat pegs, brackets and similar fixtures. The rate of duty will be 0.7 percent ad valorem.

The applicable subheading for the soap dish, toothbrush/tumbler holder and toilet paper holder will be 7418.20.1000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for sanitary ware and parts thereof, of copper-zinc base alloys (brass). The rate of duty will be 3.1 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
