RE: The tariff classification of a current sensor from Japan

Dear Ms. Namba:

In your letter dated April 5, 1994, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

Your literature describes the sample, model ZF-35, as a sensor to be used in electric powered vehicles to measure both the current between the charger and the battery, and between the battery and the motor. It can measure current which varies from 1A to 300A.

The applicable subheading for model ZF-35 will be 9030.39.00, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other instruments and apparatus, for measuring or checking electrical quantities, current, without a recording device, other. The rate of duty will be 4.9 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If the documents have been filed without a copy, this ruling should be brought to the attention of the Customs officer handling the transaction.
