RE: The tariff classification of a serpentine cheeseboard with slicer from Taiwan.

Dear Mr. De Castro:

In your letter dated May 18, 1994, on behalf of Albert E. Price, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The submitted sample, Stock No. 4047, Pompeii Collection, is a cheeseboard made of serpentine, a semi-precious gemstone, with a permanently attached slicer. The handle of the slicer is also made of serpentine.

The applicable subheading for the serpentine cheeseboard with slicer will be 7116.20.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Articles of precious or semiprecious stones (natural, synthetic or reconstructed): Other: Of semiprecious stones (except rock crystal). The rate of duty will be 21% ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If the documents have been filed without a copy, this ruling should be brought to the attention of the Customs officer handling the transaction.
