RE: The tariff classification of a sewing basket from China.

Dear Ms. Shoule:

In your letter dated March 9, 1994, on behalf of F.W. WoolWorth, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The sample submitted is a sewing basket, item number S32/7/8F, It is made of a wooden frame and measures approximately 6 1/4 inches in height and 11 1/2 inches wide. The body of the sewing basket is composed of paperboard with the exterior covered with woven floral fabric with padding. The interior of the basket is lined with woven textile fabric. The lid is attached to the body with metal hinges. The exterior of the lid is padded and covered with woven floral fabric. Attached to the inside lid is an open pocket with elasticized top and a pin cushion. The basket also contains along the top portion of its central compartment, a full- sized removable plastic tray. The sample is being returned as requested.

The applicable subheading for the sewing basket will be 6307.90.9986, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other made up articles...Other: Other, other. The rate of duty will be 7 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If the documents have been filed without a copy, this ruling should be brought to the attention of the Customs officer handling the transaction.
