RE: The tariff classification of three ink wicks and one ink reservoir from Japan.

Dear Mr. Dixon:

In your letter dated June 23, 1990, on behalf of Pilot Corp. of America, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The three ink wicks (CR-0514-WCK, PA-514-WCK and CR- PA514WK2) are of various shaped configurations, relatively small in size and are of either wool or man-made fiber felt construction. The ink reservoirs are of 100% polyurethane foam construction and measure about 1/4" square and 1/16" thick. All these components are to be assembled into complete cartridges after importation to be used in such office equipment as typewriters and computer printers, etc.

The applicable subheading for the three ink wicks will be 5911.90.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for textile products and articles, for technical uses. The rate of duty will be 7.5 percent ad valorem.

The applicable subheading for the ink reservoir will be 3921.13.5000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of plastics, cellular, of polyurethane. The rate of duty will be 4.2 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If the documents have been filed without a copy, this ruling should be brought to the attention of the Customs officer handling the transaction.

Sincerely,

Jean F. Maguire
Area Director
