RE: Marking of foreign and domestic crabmeat blend

Dear Mr. Lubkin:

This is in response to your letter of January 17, 1989 to the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, regarding the labelling of a crabmeat product that consists of a blend of foreign and domestic crabmeat. Your letter has been forwarded to us for comment.

Section 304 of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended (19 U.S.C. 1304), requires that, unless excepted, every article of foreign origin, or its container, imported into the U.S. must be legibly, permanently and conspicuously marked to indicate the country of origin to an ultimate purchaser in the U.S. Enclosed for your information is a copy of our ruling of August 16, 1989 (732237), regarding the marking of imported crabmeat which has been blended with domestic crabmeat and pasteurized in the U.S.

We hope this information is helpful to you. If we can provide any additional information or be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Sincerely,

Marvin M. Amernick
