Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

As an avid video gamer and sports fan, I am in front of the TV a lot, and needed a model that could produce the highest quality images and the most detailed graphics. I have had large flat screen TV's before, but I never spent more than a couple grand for one. This time I had recently received my income tax return, and decided to splurge on this one.

This TV is worth every dime, plus a few more. It's one of the best LCD TV's I have seen at this size. When I play my Xbox360 on this TV, the colors are so vibrant and rich, the characters seem to literally jump off the screen. I notice this particularly well with objects that are black. I also like the fact that there are a multitude of input types on the side of the unit. I use a HDMI cable for my Xbox, so having an input right on the TV comes in handy.

I watch football and basketball games on television several times a week. Since this TV renders HD channels beautifully, I always select the HD channel when scrolling the cable menu for something to watch. Sweat, freckles, and scratches on the athletes I watch come to life right before my eyes. It feels like I am right there at the arena.

As far as the look of the TV, it is sleek, streamlined, and adds a bit of a modern look to the gaming room in my basement. I bought a nice glass stand for the TV to rest on, and they look good together.

If there are any complaints about the TV, they are minor ones. Sometimes I have hold the remote the TV comes with at weird angles just to turn on the power, or adjust the volume. And when switching back and forth between the cable box input and the video game input, there is a somewhat distracting overlay screen that takes a while to go away on its own unless I manually cancel it. Overall I love this TV, and watch it as much as possible.
