This RYOBI P206 is a good performing drill-driver, offering significant flexibility for use in a number of general purpose jobs. It is very durable and is economically priced at about $60.00. This price includes the 18-volt rechargeable battery that can be used with any other RYOBI 18-volt cordless tool, as well a battery charger. The two-speed gear train, operated via a slide switch located on the top of the unit, allows the user to select either Hi or Lo speed, which affects the power and torque. Additionally, the user can easily vary the speed within the Hi or Lo range by increasing or decreasing pressure on the drill's trigger switch. There is a 24-position torque clutch that adjusts the torque for the surface being drilled and the bit being use with a simple rotation of the torque adjustment ring. This model features a keyless clutch, so there is no key to lose or to get in the way when the drill is being used. The drill has a forward/reverse/center lock. By using the reverse mode and adjusting the torque and speed, we were able to remove tightly embedded screws from the sole of a boat without stripping them. A vertical and a horizontal level, both located at the top end of the motor, allows the user to drill more accurately at whatever angle he chooses. A magnetic tray on the base of the unit conveniently holds screws. There is also a bit storage feature located at the top of the unit. It can prove handy if it will hold the bits needed for the job, but more often than not, this hasn't been the case for us. The charger that came with the unit features three LED lights that indicate the charge status or a problem with the charger or battery pack. The product specifications indicate a charge rate of one hour, but the instruction manual states that a minimum of one hour is needed to recharge it to full power after normal usage. It has always taken at least a couple of hours in our experience.
