People usually buy chainsaws to cut down trees, and that is exactly why we bought this one. We live on a small farm, so some of the trees are a long way from power points, which is why we chose a gas (or rather petrol in some countries) model. We also wanted a saw that would enable us to quickly "chop" up logs for firewood, for indoor fires and for social barbecues.
Not ever having owned a chainsaw before, we had no benchmark to compare it with. We also didn't want to spend a lot of money since this is not strictly essential work. This particular Ryobi Chainsaw kicks in at the bottom of the price ladder, but it also offers value for money which also made it appealing. We've used ours regularly since we've had it, and it has already stood up to a lot of wear and tear without any adverse affects. Some of the logs we have cut have been wider than a foot.
I was glad to discover that Ryobi is a proven and really big manufacturer, and this was another of the reasons we chose this particular tool.
In terms of technical information, the Ryobi RCS3535CA has a 35 cc engine, which offers maximum efficiency. That makes it a lot easier to work with. It's got a large starting handle with a good grip, and a three point anti-vibration handle that also makes it easier and more comfortable to hold while sawing.
It also operates with a chain tensioning system that doesn't require any sort of tool, like a spanner. If you tension it several times when you first start working (which is easy), it works more smoothly. It has a chain bar that is 14 inches (35 cm) long. The chain itself is inertia activate which makes it safer to use than some other types. There is also an automatic chain lubrication system that feeds the chain, and in this way reduces both friction and general wear and tear, which will make it last a lot longer that it might otherwise do.
Another feature of the Ryobi Chainsaw RCS3535CA is that it is a relatively quiet tool, with a built-in silencer of sorts. Yet another feature is that the fuel tank is made of a clear material so you can see fluid levels, cutting out guesswork in terms of when you need to refill with gas. Better still, the chainsaw itself comes in a strapping carry case.
