Since we to replace our old Whirlpool washer, it was only a matter of a short time before we had to replace our dryer as well. Since Whirlpool had bought out Maytag or the other way around, I am not certain we wanted a matching Maytag. We were still on a budget which required the least costly, most efficient dryer we could find. It was Maytag MGDC500VW 29-in Gas Dryer, which matched our new washer.

We can now dry two loads from our Maytag washer, which, I believe, saves our propane. The sensor for the dryness of the load shuts off the burner element thereby using less gas. It does not have complex controls so it is very easy to use. It does not have a permanent press cycle but we don't miss it. It does have 11 drying option available for the user.

Living in the country creates large, and often very dirty, wash loads. We frequently have a complete load of jeans or work clothes that work the washer and dryer hard. The Maytag dryer always comes through with great results. Its 7 cubic foot capacity, 2 washer loads with our companion washer, is wonderful. One other feature that helped us because of our garage orientation was the ability to change the door to the opposite side for convenient loading. Most people must have their washers on the left side of their laundry areas.

We have only had it for a couple of months but have no complaints. Since we shop online, we were a little hesitant to buy since a few reviews stated noise problems and lack of heating and drying. We have had no noise problems whatsoever and wonder if the problem might be with a defective part that should be replaced. With any appliance, there will be the occasional defect or problem so I wonder why the people have not called the repairman to come out and fix the problem.

As for the need to run more than a usual drying cycle this is probably an adjustment of the gas burner. In addition, if it used on natural gas from the public utility they should look into what type of gas they are getting. When we lived in the city, we would often get a mixed gas that burned with less heat being generated. We noticed it when cooking time took longer.
