LG Electronics - LW8010ER - 8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The LG Electronics model number LW8010ER, 8,000 BTU window air conditioner is an Energy Star qualified device, making it stand out from other air conditioning units, in it's capabilities for lowering energy usage and thus, expenses. This window unit air conditioner also has a number of excellent features for ease of use, customizability, and of course, cooling power, however not all of the aspects of this LG Electronics air conditioner are positive.
This window air conditioner has easy to use electronic controls, as well as a very useful remote control, and 4-way air deflection for optimal air flow to keep your area cool and comfortable during the hottest months, but there are also some negatives that are important to know before purchasing this unit. Although the device comes with a window installation kit, actually installing the device proves tricky, if it's something new to you. This device measures approximately 12.4" high by 19.5" wide by 19.4" deep and weighs about 59 pounds, so it's certainly not a compact unit. This allows it to cool medium and larger sized rooms pretty well, yet it may prove to be an issue for installation year after year.
This LG Electronics air conditioning unit, which is said to be able to cool rooms up to approximately 340 square feet or 17' by 20', does, in fact, proves to cool rooms rather effeciently, but not without with quite a bit of noise. Although this model has less noise than some previous, comparable units, the noise factor still may prove an issue, as it can be rather loud and distracting at times. Overall, this product is an alright buy for its $199.00 price tag, yet it is likely that other units in the same price range will prove to be better buys.

i just replaced this LG after using it about 10 years. the compressor finally would not start and it was just a big fan. but prior to that for about the last 2-3 years there were at times (many) knocking sounds as if pieces of something had gotten into the fan or compressor, and when that happened very fine aerosol mists would come out of the unit...not very heavily thank goodness, but enough to feel it if you put your hand up to the vent. seeing that this unit replaced another exact one that died with spray and knocking after only 3-4 years, i felt very lucky this lasted 10-12 years. but on top of that, it was rather noisy as the first reviewer said, but worst of all is that the compressor would shut off from overheating when outside temps were over 90 degrees F, and stay off for 5 or 10 minutes until the compressor cooled down, but then only go on for another 5-10 minutes or less in these temps. finally, the compressor stayed off this last month and i needed to replace. i used this 8000btu unit to cool a trailer that had a RV style roof/tent over it, so it wasn't like it was an oven needing to be cooled, and the area was 280 sq feet inside with a 7ft space from floor to roof. so i'd call this item fair performing at very very best, and basically inadequate to truly cool. after 2 of these i've bought another brand, one which i have made sure was one of the several highest rated brands available.
