Coming from stout Norwegian stock a cup of coffee is not just a cup of coffee but a daily ritual to be savored. Service station coffee is to be avoided like the plague and Starbucks is a yuppie convention that is an overpriced dessert and not a beverage. Selection of a coffee maker is akin to a vehicle or a mattress for evening comfort.

Being a coffee snob and somewhat of a committed bargain hunter, I always sought the counsel of other like-minded individuals. I have purchased Mr. Coffees, Procter Silex, a couple of espresso machines and too many "great coffee makers" I purchased a Krups FMF5 10-Cup Coffee Maker and found my almost perfect cup of coffee.

I found this coffee maker at a Ross store for a discounted price, as the $99 MSRP was all that was holding me back. I immediately took it home and ran several pots of water through the system to remove the new taste of the plastic and metal that is common to new coffee makers. We live on a rural property that has well water that is near perfect for taste.

I use a particular dark roast Arabica coffee bean from Guatemala that I favor. I use a coffee grinder filled just before brewing as I savor the aroma of fresh ground coffee and firmly believe this is the ultimate manner to get the most flavor out of the beans.

One of the cons that I would mention is the shape of the water reservoir is designed in such a way that you must be careful in pouring the water from the carafe. Speaking of the carafe, I used an old glass carafe, as it does not contribute any off taste that occasionally comes from the stainless steel carafe that is provided.

The Krups Coffee Maker has an automatic **** off feature that shuts the brewing portion off after sounding a slightly irritating series of beeps. I believe I can turn it off but I have not done so. I did have a small problem with the water level indicator as I bumped while wiping off the exterior and the indicator popped out at the bottom. I pushed it back in and it is fine. The water level indicator usually has a bubble, even before I pulled it out, in the glass tube but I do not look at the indicator as I always make a full pot.

I would recommend the Krups FMF5 10-Cup Coffee Maker to anyone seeking an excellent cup of Joe from an easy to use appliance.
