Anyone who is serious about cooking, especially baking, has had the experience of using a hand mixer to the point of severe discomfort. A hand mixer is fine for pancake batter but if you are making bread, mixing a large amount of cake batter, or cooking for a large group the KitchenAid is the workhorse for you.

We purchased our KitchenAid as a recommendation from my mother in law who was a baking enthusiast whose cakes and pies were way beyond fantastic. She attributed her success to good ingredients, patience, and most of all her KitchenAid. Success and taste are the true components of great cooking.

We purchased our KitchenAid from a discount store for around $170, which was a great saving from its MSRO of $270. It may have refurbished for some reason that has not disclosed itself. We find it hard to believe someone would return this amazing cooking aid.

The ten speeds offer control over the ingredients being introduced into the bowl. I don't know if we have ever used the top speed setting as 7 or 8 is usually fast enough. One of the features I really appreciate is that the beaters not only rotate themselves but the whole beater assembly rotates around the interior of the bowl, cutting down the need to stop the mixer, grab a plastic spatula and wipe down the sides of the bowl. The stainless steel bowl could use a lip for pouring out the contents and occasionally it can be a little difficult to remove from the stand.

My wife's homemade breads and cinnamon rolls are always requested when we are having a family gathering or going to a pot luck dinner. The KitchenAid allows her to make two loaves at a time, which is adequate for our needs. If more quantity is required, you can purchase a 6-quart capacity version. For the average family the 4.5-quart bowl is ample.

The KitchenAid is easy to maintain as all you need do is toss beaters, hook, whisk, and bowl into the dishwasher and wipe off the mixer and you are done. The KitchenAid is large and heavy so we choose to let it occupy counter space. If you want to hide it away, but I cannot imagine why you would hide a KitchenAid, you should use caution to not injure yourself or the machine.

We love our KitchenAid using it several times a week and cannot imagine not having this wonderful convenient appliance.
