Kenmore Elite Microwave Oven 721.66462500

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

The Kenmore Elite 721.66462500 is a spacious and powerful microwave oven with a variety of pre-programmed functions. Its 2.0 cubic foot oven capacity is large enough to heat small casserole dishes without bumping the walls. This microwave is loaded with custom settings and "short-cut" buttons, all of which are fairly easy to figure out. I rarely consult my manual. The Quick Touch Sensor pad takes the guesswork out of cooking or warming most food items. Once you've located your food from a categorized menu, the microwave does the rest. The pre-programmed settings on most microwaves tend to over or under-cook food, but the Kenmore's settings are nearly all on the mark. I use the potato and popcorn settings regularly with confidence. The easy to clean interior makes removing baked on spills a breeze. The rotating plate comes out easily for washing as does the wheeled base so that you can clean under it. The face of the microwave also makes for easy cleaning. It does not smudge easily like other brands. There are some down sides to this product; primarily that it is a Kenmore and exclusive to Sears. My personal experiences with Sears' repair and customer services have not inspired confidence. In addition to lengthy wait times (never less than a week for in-home repairs), the level of work and service is often lacking. However, they do have a very comprehensive website dedicated to Kenmore parts and manuals that is extremely helpful in troubleshooting and fixing problems yourself. Another drawback is the color. I chose the white finish, which was initially a clean, bright shade. In only three years, the color has faded and yellowed. The change is slight and probably not obvious to others, but it makes the exterior look dirty or filmy. Some plastic components have aged worse than others, making for an uneven color. The door handle, for example, is slightly more yellow than the control panel. White microwaves are already difficult to keep clean, but the discoloring seems to compound the problem. Overall, this is a well-built and reliable product that delivers good value for a competitive price.
