Hitachi RAC-26CHA1 Air Conditioner

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

I have two of these air conditioners in my house. They were purchased specifically for two smaller areas that are out of reach of the airflow from the rest of the house. I think this model may have been made for smaller areas, rather then for a whole house as it is not a very big unit; it doesn't cost much and is not expensive to run.

They do work well enough for where they are. It does heat the room up once it gets going but not instant heat like some of the more expensive units. Once turned on it starts immediately so for heat the air isn't warm when it first comes out. It only takes a minute or two to get warm but if set on a high temperature it doesn't reach that for quite a while. By the time it takes for a small room to be warm enough to call comfortable, it would need to be on for over an hour to start to heat up an average house as the main unit.

It does have all the options of a good air conditioner to adjust it as you want. The control is very simple and easy to use, which is good because some models overcomplicate it and it's unnecessary.

The inside unit is not too loud, but loud enough to really notice the difference all of a sudden when it's turned off. I can always tell when the filter needs cleaning because it is even louder. The outside unit is loud. It doesn't disrupt the room where the air is actually going to because the noise on the inside blocks it out, but if someone was to sleep in a room close it may affect their sleep.

I would definitely only recommend this for the heating of a small area.
