When choosing a new refrigerator, it came down to the Frigidaire side-by-side or the Samsung. Each had similar specs and features, and roomy interiors. The deciding factor was the price. For $200 less than the Samsung, the Frigidaire offered 26 cubic feet, compared to Samsung's 25.6. The interior is well laid out, allowing many options for storage variations. The cheese drawer is placed at eye level in the middle of the refrigerator, instead of hidden by the vegetable drawer at the bottom. The drawer is also spacious and can easily accommodate a platter of sandwiches or hors d'oeuvres, making it valuable real estate when entertaining. The pocket shelves in the doors are deep and spacious, allowing for plenty of condiments and beverage containers. Some refrigerators have cold spots where foods will form a layer of ice or even freeze while the rest of the interior maintains a normal temperature. The Frigidaire's temperature remains consistent throughout the refrigerator, with no freezing or ice issues. This refrigerator is also very quiet. Unlike some that rattle and churn when the motor comes on, the Frigidaire hums lightly in the background, unnoticed. The freezer is also spacious for a side-by-side, and offers enough room for a frozen pizza box to lie flat. There are plenty of storage compartments in the freezer, accommodating much more food than the traditional top or bottom freezer boxes. The drawers in the freezer, however, are really baskets. This is not necessarily an issue- it does allow for better air circulation. However, sometimes they do not seem sturdy enough for large, heavy items such as a frozen turkey. Also, smaller items like individual ice pops can peak through the holes and keep them from sliding out. Another issue with the Frigidaire is the water filter. While it works well and provides quality drinking water, the filter's life seems shorter than that of other brands. They also can be difficult to find in stores and cost more. That said, it is easy to locate on the refrigerator itself and a cinch to replace. Overall, the Frigidaire can't be beat for its combination of space, design, style, and price. It offers the consumer an incredible value under a well-trusted brand name.
