The Dyson DC24 is a lightweight, portable vacuum cleaner that turns easily and can clean in hard-to-reach areas. Weighing only 11.6 pounds, the vacuum is still powerful while being easy- to- use. The vacuum's front wheel (and motor-housing) is a large orange ball which allows maximum maneuverability in tight spaces, yet it maintains a straight line when necessary.
Overall, the vacuum is easy-to-use, however, the Dyson DC24 presents a few problems. Usage on stairs is more than problematic. Although an 11.6-pound vacuum cleaner is lightweight, balancing the vacuum on stairs is difficult. The Dyson becomes really heavy and problematic in stair cleaning because the vacuum's beater brush will only operate if the vacuum is extended. Holding the vacuum at the angle necessary to operate the beater brush becomes very cumbersome, and using the extendable handle with wand brush does not produce the same results as the beater brush.
Also slightly problematic while easy-to-use is the canister clean-out. The entire canister removes easily by pressing one button, however, with no bags, the dust cloud produced when depressing the clean-out button is undesirable. I always have dust on my clothes when I finish vacuuming, but the clean out system is very easy-to-use.
Offsetting both the stairs and canister dust, however, I find the Dyson DC24 very user-friendly in all other aspects of operation including maneuverability, portability, and features. The Dyson DC24 ball design makes the vacuum very maneuverable. Not limited by typical vacuum limitations such as tight spaces and straight lines, the vacuum easily cleans under couches and beds and around furniture. The lightweight vacuum is also portable and powerful. It is portable both because it is lightweight and because, with the touch of a button, the handle retracts into the hose, allowing for smaller storage area and easier portability. Easy-to-use features include buttons placed in easy-to-reach places for general power and beater brush power, easy clean outs, and easy extendable-handle use.
