I bought this dehumidifier to use in my damp basement. I have used humidifiers before, since moving in to the house. Before the purchase of this unit, I had two smaller machines running simultaneously. Neither of these machines had automatic drainage or a pump like this one. Though they did an adequate job, they needed to be drained multiple times every day. It was too much of a hassle, and I decided to spend the money and get a good dehumidifier.

Unfortunately, I bought this one instead.

Because I have a finished basement, it was important that the dehumidifier look as nice as possible. This one, as dehumidifiers go, is quite good looking. When I first purchased the unit, it worked very well and removed more moisture than the two older units combined.

I was very satisfied until something went wrong and the unit stopped automatically draining the water it had collected. The pump had shut down. Following advice I found online, I basically disassembled the cover of the unit and pulled apart several of the parts until I got to a small inner tank. The tubes and fixtures at this level were covered in slime and gunk, preventing the water from flowing, which in turn shut down the pump. I cleaned everything with a bleach and water solution, put it all back (not a simple task for a person who isn't a mechanic) and then the machine worked again.

Though I was still under warranty, the shipping costs to have it repaired by DeLonghi were more than I was willing to pay.

This dehumidifier looks good and works extremely well until the slime starts to build up and shuts everything down. Though it's still working well right now, I dread the day when I have to disassemble everything for a cleaning.
