I bought this scanner to use for my small business. As it is, officially, the "company" scanner, it needed to be reliable and work well without having to constantly troubleshoot problems. We don't have a tech person, so if I couldn't handle the problem myself, the scanner would be useless.
Luckily, this scanner took care of most of our problems. The most annoying thing in office environments, large or small, are machines that consistently misfeed. I wanted a feeding scanner (as opposed to a page-at-a-time variety) so that I could put a sheet of papers in and have them scan perfectly, flawlessly without having to watch over it every minute, or come back after getting a cup of coffee and find it jammed from the first page. This machine has performed amazingly in that regard. It has only misfed a few times in the seven months I've owned it. Compared to my last scanner that jammed every other page, this one is miraculous.
It's also very fast. though I don't average the "26ppm" Canon says it's capable of for black and white or color pages, it works perfectly well for the small business I run. I love that it scans both sides of a document at the same time, which saves time and aggravation.
My only complaint is with the software. I had a few compatibility problems which I managed to solve with a patch, but there were still a few issues with communication between computer and scanner.
But once everything was solved, the software proved easy to use. Documents are easy to find when scanned. The thumbnails aren't too small to easily see and understand. The scanning quality is great, with no fuzziness or blotchy places. After scanning and resetting, printed pages are as good as high-quality color copies.
