The server should be able to assign "temporary credentials", so that a user agent can log into multiple channels without asking the user for a password each time (or saving the password in-core).For example, if the user agent wishes to monitor multiple mailboxes, it would be useful to connect one more channel for each mailbox, and SELECT that mailbox instead of making STATUS requests repeatedly. As it is, that cannot be done without either asking the user for the password again. However, if the server could create a random credential (a cookie, if you will) on the existing channel, that credential could be used when connecting once more for a secure, passwordless login.
