Hi, I own 2 beautiful English Springer Spaniels. They are AKC registered and I seen the parents and grandparents. I have also done any other necessary research but was still unable to find the answer to one of my most important questions. How old should the male be before he is used as a stud for the very first time? There are many people in my area that have seen my black and white, have observed his temperement and would love to have one of his puppies. So I would like to breed him at least once before getting him neutered.

Dogs are sexually mature at 6 months old but you are supposed to wait until they're older. It's your choice. Good luck! Tanisha

With a male springer, I would recommend at least one year to 1 1/2 once they go thru their puperty stage. In the past, Springer rage was common due to inner breading, and it typically didn't show up until the dog turned a year old. You want to be sure your dogs are the best family animal and pass on their great personalities! Make sure the female is of good stock, too, before breeding. Have fun! I love the puppies!!!
