Only your dog can answer this question. Some go into heat as young as 4 months or as old as a 1 1/2 years. The space between heats can vary in dogs 4-12 months so only your dog can tell you her pattern. Look for signs like swelling of the vulva, bloody/milky discharge from the vulva, urinating more often, and males being more attracted to her. PLEASE find more information about heat, breeding, and pregnancy before going into this. You won't regret it!

I have a female cocker spaniel and she is 4 months old. She has a fishy odor to her volva.  What could be causing this?  Could she be going into heat this early?  And if so what would happen if she did get breed this early?  I have a two year old male cocker and I'm afraid he might get her to early.  Please help me.  email me at mbostick25@yahoo.com with any information you have.  Thank you.

I have a female Weimaraner that I thought would never come in heat! We tried putting her around other dogs that were in heat, but nothing worked. Finnaly when she was 20 months old she came into heat and we bred her on her 7th,8th, & 9th day of her heat cycle. She is now 54 days pregnant and barely showing except for the saggy/ swolen boobies.
