My Shih Tzu "Buddy" has been vomitting here lately about once a week.  It is a yellow foam looking substance.  Any ideas on what this could be?  He is 1 year and 1 month old.  I called the vet and he said if this persist I should bring him in.  Help!!!  I love him sooooo much and I don't want anything to happen to him.

My shih tzu is 4 and we have experienced this problem off and on for several years. After numerous trips to the vet it was attributed to a sour stomach.  She doesn't each people food and is on Presciption Diet ID.  On the last trip to our vet we decided to give her 1/4 of a Zantac each night before bedtime.  Knock on wood this seems to have solved the vomiting problem.  Hope this helps with your baby.

My 12 year old had the same issue for years.  Now that she has a better appetite and her stomach isn't empty, it RARELY happens now.

Maybe 2 or 3 small meals each day is the answer

They will vomit a yellow bile if their stomach is empty. so make sure they are eating and a cookie before bed as well will help.

MY CHLOE DID THAT FOR A WHILE. THE VET SAID IT WAS A RESULT OF EATING TOO MUCH PEOPLE FOOD AND PUT HER ON SCIENCE DIET FOOD. SHE IS FINE NOW. HASN'T VOMITED AT ALL SINCE; IT'S BEEN ALMOST A YEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS!

my little shih tzu has vomited a few times a week ever since i got her as a puppy a year ago. it is usually yellow foamy vomit, sometimes it has a sand texture (which i assume is very well digested food). i have not recently switched her dog food (only once ever). she throws up in the middle of the night even if i give her a treat before bed. she always finishes all of her food eventually eating small portions throughout the day. she will throw up at any time in the day or night without any pattern to her vomiting. i have taken her to the vet a few times and the have given her antibiotics which haven't done anything. the recommendations about frequent feedings to keep something in her stomach doesn't seem to help at all.

any suggestions? to reduce the acid in her stomach i am toying with the idea of giving her Tums or something to prevent so much stomach acid that she vomits.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Kris

My muffy was a humper.  She humped her way through most of our family (she loved family parties!) She was a rough collie and lived to be 15.  She had 5 puppies, one died, but she was a great mother!!  She never hardly vomited yellow foam, so there is nothing I can say really.  I wqould love to help you but I can't.  Hope you get ur dog sorted out!!!

I have and 8 month old Shih-Tzu who has a problem with tear stains I have him since he was 8 weeks old, and the tear stains were my main concern. thru searching on the net I found different ways to take care of the stains. One was to give the puppy half a Tums (750mg) twice a day. I did so using fruit flavored Tums. He loved them and there was no vomiting. But I have not given him any lately, and he has been eating Diamond dry puppy food all of his life. Now he is vomiting bile (the yellow foamy stuff) all day and barely eating. I never give him human food.  But 2 days ago he ate a few chips and cereal that someone dropped on the floor and he has been vomiting since and his stool is loose and slight mucousy. I got very worried and was about to take him to and emergency vet because he is my baby, but after reading this question and answer page, I think I will wait another day and watch what and how he eats. I will also start him back on the Tums. I think they really help his upset stomach. Hope this helps your baby

Same thing with my shih tzu! Two vets haven't been able to give me answers - I thought maybe it was the anal glands but it continues to happen.

I have a 19 month shih tzu and he vomits yellow foam stuff.  He does it generally during the day, but he does have some food in the morning and a couple of treats before he goes into the cage.  I find this problem to come and go it is not consistent.

I have a 16 week old female shih tzu named molly. I am having many problems with her. potty training, she isn't eating, she is loosing weight and she keeps vomiting! She is starting to scare me. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow to see what might be wrong with her. But every time she eats. like an hour later she vomits everything she ate up. she also vomits at night with the yellow foam stuff. i keep trying to feed her. I even keep food in her crate (trying to crate potty train her) and she won't eat it. I am feeding her the exact same thing the breeder did. but I don't know what to do! I am afraid to loose my puppy. I have had her for 2 weeks.

My dog, a min-pin, does that occasionally.  Usually, around the time she is to go into heat.  Either right before or during.  Sometimes both.  She won't eat for a few minutes afterwards, than she'll delve into her food.  I think it's because she doesn't feel like eating and get'sherself so hungry she vomits.

my shih tzu seems to be vomiting pretty frequently as well. But he seems full of energy and is always running around. I cant determine whats wrong but I figure if hes not acting up then hes fine and its probably due to indigestion or too much food?

I am also going through this same situation with my Shih tzu.  Poppa is almost a year old.  It is really scary.  He vomits almost once a week. Sometimes more. The information that I have received here seems helpful and I am going to try some of your recommendations. Thanks so much,

My shih tzu also threw up a couple times a week, a yellow colour, and the texture was "like sand".  But the next day, he threw up food that wasn't digested at all. We decided to look at him for another week to make sure there was something wrong, but he stopped... now that I think of it, he was around 4 or 5 months old.. and we started giving him 2 portions instead of 3.. maybe that was the problem. Anyhow, he stopped vomiting after wards, we still don't know what happened..

This site helped so much. I noticed that she doesn't vomit the nights I give her a few treats before bed or when she's been especially good and had treats all day long.

My Shih Tzu has had the same vomiting problem for about a year now.  He only appears to vomit on an empty stomach.  Unfortunately, he often goes without eating. Since this seems to be a common occurance with the breed I don't know whether I should be concerned.

It is probably something you are mopping your floors with.  I used pinesol for years and  my shih tzu did this also.  When I changed to all natural cleaners this stopped.  I concluded I was unknowingly slowly poisoning my baby. My vet said she had acid reflux and put her on Maalox...it helped, but didn't stop it.

I have a year old Shi Tzu/Bichon and he's been throwing up the yellow foam for 5 consecutive days now.  It wasn't this frequent before and not in a string of days.  I took him to the VEt but they only prescribed antacid.  It isn't working at all.  Anything else that could possible be done?  I have been feeding him rice, chicken with low fat cottage cheese and bland crackers.  I don't think it's working.

Our Mochi also vomits once in a while, usually in the mornings.  Our vet also said it was due to not having anything in his stomach and to give him a little snack before bed.  It has gotten a lot better.  Plus, I divide up his "dinner"  and feed him at 6 and 10 pm.  Seems to help!  good luck!

Our Shih tzu has been doing this since last summer. It is horrible.  We have been to the vet and have had tests done and there seems to be no problem, but he continues to vomit.  We never know when or how often (sometimes we will even go a week without any vomitting, but that is rare) I don't know what to do, but I am very tired of it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a male shih tzu who is about a year and a half.  Since he was a puppy he has always thrown up either clear foamy liquid or yellow bile every once in awhile.  This week he vomited what looked like porridge twice and the last 4 days after he has vomitted the yellow bile every morning.  I leave dog food for him to eat all day but he refuses to eat when I'm not home and will only eat when he's starving @ about 9pm when I am home.  I only give him dog food (IAMS for small dogs) and puppy treats.  I've read to give him peanut butter and I tried that this morning after he had vomitted again.  He loved it, his first bit of human food!  Does anyone know if this is good for him?  I am going to try to mix a little with his food in the morning so he will eat 2 small meals instead of gorging @ night in one big meal.  Does anybody have any suggestions?  Should I just see a vet?  I'm very worried, but it seems many people have this problem with shih tzu'sso I hope it's nothing serious.

I've got a question. Pl help. My Shih Tzu is 13 months old. Lately, he seems to have lost his appetite. I've been feedinghim  dog food - Science Plan - dry pellets missed with canned food, and occasionally Diet Prescription by the Vet. Sometimes, when he refuses his usual dog food, I would feed him with a little Gardenia wholemeal bread. And he loves it My question is: Is  it alright to feed him that?
