We had the same problem with ours also. My wife would do the same thing and get up and take her to bed with her. I guess it was because we had her crate in our bedroom. This got old pretty quick so we moved her to the kitchen and thats all it took. She now sleeps until we get up.

I take her out once at night to go to the bathroom and then she's fine. But at 5:00 in the morning she is ready to get up and play! I think i will move her so she will learn crying will not get her out of her crate. (she's 9weeks) Is that a good idea? ANY MORE ADVICE? Hey Jeff was yours a puppy? and did she cry at night? Thanks mk

Hi MK,

Yes ours is a puppy, and yes she cried at night until my wife got her out and took her to bed with us. She is now 11 weeks old. Let me know if moving her to the kitchen worked for you. It sure did for us.

Jeff

Hello,

For how long would you recommend to leave a yorkie puppy in its crate? the max?

Try to limit her time in the crate during the day no more the 2 or 3 hours. Because she's in her crate all night.

Instead of putting her in the kitten when ever she got up I told her quite and left the room. She cried for about an hour! So I went in my room and made her quite down before I took her out. Then she went to sleep in my lap! Why is she doing this?

They love attention. Try putting her in the kitchen and let me know if it worked for you.

Thanks,

Hi All,
We put Codi (our 12 week old Yorkie) in the kitchen for two weeks, and he never stopped crying.
Then put him in his crate in our bedroom and he pretty much sleeps through the night.
Good luck!

My Kody cried when i first got him, so i let him sleep in the bed with us.  He got up a lot during the night at first, but now he can make it through the night (he's about 5 months) and he sleeps soundly the whole night.  He's only about 3 lbs, so naturally we were worried about rolling over on him, but surprisingly, he's pretty alert, and knows where he should lie.  Plus its wonderful waking up to a yorkie (they're so cute when they wake up.  My recommendation?  Let the puppy in your bed, but be prepared for some restless nights at first, eventually you'll get to the point that one trip outside before bed will last til the morning.  (take the food away 3 hours before bed)

I leave my puppy in the crate in my bedroom.  I make sure she can see me and because I watch tv in the room, I cover the crate on three sides with a blanket to keep it dark.  After she goes to sleep, I cover the fourth side.  She sleeps all night.  Each dog is different.  Whatever you do, if you take her/him out when crying - you will teach her/him to cry to get out all the time.  During the day, I gate (baby gate)her in the kitchen (while I'm working) with the door open on the covered crate. It's like having her own bedroom when she wants it.

I'm not sure if letting your yorkie sleep with you will help.  We started crate training ours (to sleep in another room) but after the first week, decided we wanted her to sleep with us.  We must be very lucky cause this little girl could sleep through the night at about 10 weeks and never pottied in our bed.  She's 4 months now, weighs a little over 3.5 lbs. and is an absolute delight to both of us.  I don't know much about this breed as we have had shelties, but I wonder if the warmth from another body might help them to relax?  Ours seems to get cold easily.  I might add that we are late night people so at 12:00, we are going to bed.  Maybe you should keep yours up longer if you can.  If not, I had three children that had to cry themselves to sleep at one point and they turned out fine.  Your little puppy will eventually figure that out too.  Good luck.

I just got my yorkie about 1 week ago and he is now 11 weeks, the first 2 nights he would wake up at 3 am and want to play and again at 5 am...No Sleep for me...lol, I couldn't bear to use the crate...since then he now goes to sleep in his doggie bed which I keep next to my bed with my arm down so he can lick and sleep through the night..(wakes up around 6:30)...goes potty on the wee-wee pad and then starts his day.  He has been very good with peeing on the pad...but then will go poop on the floor...lol..I don't get it..anything similar over here?

I just got a chihuahua puppy (2 pounds), and I am worried about him sleeping in his crate. I put him in the living room and he cries all night. I also have an upstairs neighbor that I am worried about. I know he will sleep well in the bed with me, but have been told that this is not a good idea for a puppy. Any suggestions?

I got my little Yorkie for $350 including shipping! at puppyfind.com Crate training is tuff at first. But if you stay tuff and don't let your puppy think that just because it whines that it's going to get out everything will turn out fine. My puppy is now 12 weeks old and she is crate trained and house trained. All you have to do is stand strong!

                         Good Luck

I have a 11 week old yorkie. For the first week we let him sleep on his puppy bed but he woke up every night at 4am. For the second week, we had him sleep in his cage and he sleeps until 6:30am. I think crate training works really well.

Tux is now just over 10 weeks old and I know that the breeder is a crate fan. Tux's first night home with us I was expecting the worst and after a minute or so of crying he went to bed and was sound asleep until I woke him up at 6:00 this morning. I woke up three or four times during the night wondering if he was alright in there because he was sooo good. A blessed man am I.

I have a 6 month old yorkie.  He is the cutest, most friendly little guy that I have ever seen.  We've been crate training since the puppy pads weren't working.  He's doing great now.  My question is, when do I let the little guy have free reign in the house?

Me and my wife just bought a yorkie puppy a week ago. She is 8 weeks old and has been a little bit of a challenge this first week but we love her. I work graveyards and so for the first couple of nights my wife had her sleep in the bed. She did really good, she learned really quick that she wasnt to go to the bathroom and slept practically the whole night. On my nights home she got pretty mad that i was sleeping in the bed and didnt sleep that well. We recently started having her sleep in a crate right next to our bed. She usually sleeps for about three hours and then gets up and cries. I was just wondering if anyone has been in my situation and how long it took for your puppy to adjust to the crate.

I have a 10 week old yorkie and he is adorable. He is in the kitchen enclosed with a baby gate. At night he cries for 15-30 min and then he goes to sleep. I am afraid to let him sleep with me mainly because I think he will cry harder when I leave him in the kitchen to go to work. He also cries if he is in the kitchen even if he can see me. So I'm afraid he will become more anxious of being in the kitchen if he sleeps with me

My two month old malkie sleeps in his crate in my bedroom at night. He sleeps soundly knowing he is not alone at night. he tends to get up a little earlier than me, but I don't mind taking him out . Hey when you gotta go you gotta go! I also  have a baby gate in the living room and kitchen for him to play in when i am watching t.v or on the computer. I take him for walks each day. they are such balls of energy! It helps him wind dowm for bed.I always reward him for going outside with a pat on the head or a little treat! I don't believe in punishinG an animal.
