Yes you can, using a software called DVD Ripper (by Cosmi). This program is available at Walmart and Staples and sells for $10-$30. This program converts a DVD (mpeg2) movie into a divx or vcd format. The ripping though, takes about 2-3 hours to convert. Check out cosmi.com for more info.    Invest on a DVD writer- ripping takes about 29 minutes to rip and about 11 minutes to burn on a blank dvd.  Good luck.
