I have a 10 month old Husky Chow Chow mix and I absolutely adore him!  He has a wonderful temperment and is extremely lovable.  He looks more like a husky (body type and features), but has the Chow Chow coloring.  He is extremely loyal and great with kids and other dogs.  He is very playful and beautiful.  I find that these two breeds create a wonderful mix!  Good luck!

i just recently adopted a 8 week old husky/chow mix.. she is beautiful, resembling the chow, but i have never seen a puppy bite as much as she does, and she barks at people like and adult dog would to protect its owner already... i am really hoping that this doesn't turn into a problem with her being an aggressive dog... can anyone give me some pointers about what i can do?

I dont think your puppy will turn into an aggressive dog. I was told with my chow chow and he is 12 weeks is that he needs to be socialized around others, so he does not feel threatened when strangers are around. He does real well, he barks at times but has not shown any aggression. Usually when i tell him no he stops. All puppys have that strange feeling of fear around people they dont know. Try to have your puppy around others. He is still young and it should not be a problem. Show your puppy that he does not have to fear others.

I have a 6 yr old chow/husky mix female which I got at the Humane Society when she was just 2 yrs. old.    She is wonderful with people and with our cat.  However, she is extremely aggressive towards other dogs.  My vet told me it is the chow in her that makes her very protective and this is her way of being defensive.   She is really lovable other than the fact I cannot allow her to be near another dog.
I have heard similar stories from other chow/husky mix owners.   Good luck to you!

I saw the info on the chow/husky mix and it gives me hope as I am about to adopt a husky/spitz/chow mix.  Use to have an american eskimo, so thought I would stick with the spitz family.  I am hoping he is as sweet and nice as these articles state for other owners.. thanks so much for sharing your info.

I have a 4 month old husky/chow who is absolutely adorable & has a sweet disposition most of the time. However, if you do not have Tons of Free time to train them, you can forget it.  They are extremely stubborn & their innate urge to bite (although she is still a puppy) is insane.  She still cannot be left alone in the house as she chews everything.  Walls, paper, shoes, books, everything she can get in her mouth is fair play & getting her to release anything (like my daughter's book report!) is almost impossible.  I have raised German Shepard's & lots of Labs but nothing can compare.  I highly recommend that unless you "must" have a Chow & are very familiar with training dogs  and have tons of free time to spend with you dog, I would look for an easier breed.

Looking for a Chow/Husky Mix Puppy:

I currently am searching for a chow/husky puppy that is ONLY 6-8 weeks old . I live in NJ  with a huge basement area for him/her to run around when  there is 8 feet of snow out and a huge backyard for the summer.

Right now, I can only afford to spend $100- $400 ($400 in installments) on a male or female or male puppy. I am looking for a puppy that has been weened ( 6-8 weeks old) which will be available around late December (still pending approval from my parents)- Early February.

I do not want any puppy from a puppy mill or pet store or a shelter (sorry...I believe in saving lives but I really don't want behavior problems from previous owners). If the puppy does not have their inital shots that is okay, I will be more then happy to do it myself.

If you know of anywhere (except shelters and puppy mills) that has puppies that are going to be 6-8 weeks ONLY around late Dec- Early Feb please contact Faith @ 646-996-6048 or via e-mail at Faith.Washington@gs.com or ULuvFaith@aol.com

I have a Red Chow Chow / Border Collie Mix (at least we think she is part border collie).  She is the friendliest dog Ihave ever seen/had - she defies all typical Chow Chow personality characteristics.  She will greet anyone with a smile, a lick, a very enthusiastic tail wag and a nudge (indicating she would love to be petted).  While her Red Chow characteristic is quite obvious (dominant in her phenotype) she appears a little spitz-like as her hair is shorter and paws and muzzle are smaller.  Her border collie characteristics are that she has very sensitive hearing, great personality, her muzzle is exactly the same and she has an uncanny ability to track dear in the neighborhood.

huskys in Australia range between $300 and $1000. They are a great breed but take alot of work and are VERY,, VERY people/animal orientated.
IF you cant spend all day and night with your husky..get him another dog. They get bored easy, need to have their minds stimulated often and are over smart. They need company and even with another dog they will still dog holes and be naughty til about 3 years old.
They need lots of excercise and thrive on learning new things. Make sure you take him to puppy school and obedience (one made just 4 huskys)
good luck but think seriously about getting a husky..people dont want older ones after you cant handle it any more

My husky/chow chow mix dog is very friendly and beautiful. He's very social and friendly to all dogs and people. He likes to wander, and loves the snow but isn't a great fan of water. The combo is wonderful!

Hey, I got my Siberian Husky/ Chow mix when I was 9 years old.  It just died today and I was looking for a good picture of similar dogs.  I came across this and thought I'd say a few things.  My dog had the most loving and sweet personality. We adopted her from the Humane society when she was just a pup. This was around the same time as we got one of our cats.  The two got along great and I think that was partly what was responsible for her behavior now.  She loved all living things.  She'd bark at people or dogs, but only if they were on 'her' property. I firmly believe, with no doubt, that she would have defended me to the greatest degree if I were ever attacked.  An amazing thing about her was her tongue.  When she was young her tongue was half black and half pink.  I thought it was quite unique.  Over the years it faded to just dark dark red.  I loved her, and she was the sweetest thing I'd ever met.  I would gladly give all my belongings to have her again.  I can still see her beautiful brown eyes...

Dear Terry and Billmeatball:
I have an 11 month old Husky-Chow Mix.  He is lovable, doesn't bark much, loves other dogs and everybody.  He is very smart, but he is stubborn.  He doesn't like to walk on a leash; he would rather run free.  We have had him since he was 4 1/2 weeks old.  We also adopted his brother, who was even more gentle and good natured.  When they got to be 8 months old the one I kept was jealous of the attention I showed the smaller brother.  They got along fine.  A client of my husband wanted a husky and Little Joe looked just like a husky and went home with a nice family with 2 teenage boys.  My dog's name is Hoss.  He looks like a reddish-beige wolf.  He has a teddy bear head and the softest fur I have ever felt on a dog.  He was easy to house train.  We have a 1/3 acre fenced in yard for him to play in and next door the lady has 5 German Shepherds he runs the fence with.  They bark, he just chases them.  He does love to chew.  You must provide him with alot of chew stuff.  I left an uhpolstered chair in the back yard over nite by mistake and he chewed the cushions off it.  He never does any damage in doors.  He likes rough play with my husband and 21 year old son but he knows I'm the boss and I don't play rough. I have alot of dogs in my day: Golden Retriever 12 years, Cocker Spaniel 14 years, New Foundland 10 years, German Shepherds and Border Collie/Husky mix 10 years and I think this one is going to turn out to be my favorite.  They are strong dogs so you must be stronger to get them to comply.  I was amazed for such a big dog they don't eat much and are very gentle when they eat.  We have two cats and he gets along with them.

We had a border collie and chow mix and she was the most amazing dog we owned.  She was the most gentle (with our baby), a great door watcher, never had an accident, best companion (sits right next to me), playful (loves all creatures outside and in), at 8 still acted puppylike. I am desperately looking for another one, its the most perfect mix.
