My little girl has just come out of her first heat. Were into the 5th week now and she is still swollen and her nipples are hard and pronounced. Is this what is the norm or is this a sign of a problem? There are no uncut males around her.
Thanks in advance ...Sassy's Mom

Yes, this is normal from the research that I have done.  Please consider having her spayed.  Most chihuahua females are not good breeders, even the most experienced sometimes lose the dam and/or the litter.  You also will have to make sure that she doesn't get anywhere where she could contact an intact male, it doesn't take any time at all for those boys to find 'em and mount 'em.

It will be much kinder to her also, since she won't have to go through her heat cycle without getting any 'satisfaction'.

Spay her if you want, don`t if you don`t. Seriously, if I was a dog, I wouldn't want someone to rip my uterus out either. I mean, look at it from the poor dogs point of veiw! Just be responsible with her when she is in heat, keep her up in the house or A VERY SECURE FENCE. If there is a single way to get out, she`ll find it, or if there is one single way to get in, some dog will find it! Good luck with her! :0

My chi has also just come out of heat...she is showing some hard, well defined nipples towards her hind legs. Also she continues to lick her "woman spot" constantly. Is that just because she was used to cleaning herself through the heat process or should I be worried about her being pregnant? She's 9 months old and I have another male chi/terrier mix that is 6 months old.
