I have a 1928 A series of, gold certificate for 20.00. very good condition with two folds it says (federal reserve bank of chicago illinois)signed by n.o. woods and a.w. mellon i think. it has a large # 7 in a circle, and says redeemable in gold on demand at the united states treasury, or in gold or lawful money at any federal reserve bank.

Hi..you have a Federal Reserve Note. All Federal Reserve Notes were redeemable into gold from when first issued in 1914 upto 1933.The pharse was removed with the 1934 issue. Now with two folds only the note grades XF which is extra fine. The note would have a value of $50 in this grade.Hope this helps.
