I went to PCPITSTOP.com to get a check on my system and it told me that I had a virus, it said the file name is, C:\windows\system32\-embedding. I ran my norton virus scan and it found nothing. I did a search for the file and it found nothing. Is this something I should worry about?
Thank you for any feed back.

I was getting the same thing: a malicious script from "C:\WINDOWS\system32\-Embedding".  In my experience it only tried to run when I went to www.google.com.  I allowed the whole script to run once and so far so good.  But before that I made a restore point.  I'll keep you posted if something happens.

I got the same problem. As soon as I go to google or altavista I get a warning from norton av about a malicious script. Norton is up-to-date but it couldnt find anything on the system.

btw I've got this problem on 4 computers on the same day.

I also had this happen to both my PC's at home yesterday. Norton warns of a malicous script and recommends stopping it - which of course I did. But like others here, this warning now appears every time I visit the google home pages i.e. google.com & google.co.uk

I have the same warning as others regarding c:\windows\system32\-embedding I'm not sure how to proceed with this, is this an infected file on my PC or is it something on Google itself?

Any ideas?

Kyorin

I've been getting this too over the last few days. Have you all run live update recently? Have any of you installed the google toolbar? I can't find anything else on this - and norton doesn't seem to handle it.

Just noticed that although the Google page loads correctly without the warning coming up now, it says "page cannot be found" after a couple of seconds along the title bar at the top of the page - as if the script is now pointing to a dead link perhaps?

The Norton warning about windows\system32\-embedding first started last night about 10 minutes after I had done a google search.  I ran windows\system32\-embedding through all the search engines I could think of and google is the only engine that had a reference.  This site and another site that gives me a security alert when I try and go there - something about the security certificate being from some one I didn't trust.  Last night, there were only 3 responses on this list - now there are 15,  It would be nice if someone knew what was going on.
