I am thinking of getting an Lhasa Apso puppy , I don't know anything about that breed. Please tell me about them , I have been told that they are a one owner dog and that they are very protective and will bite sometimes, and that they are not a nice a pet for some people. Please advise me . Thanks

They have a independent nature and are wary of strangers, although very affectionate with their owners. They make delightful family companions. (Quoted from a breeders book)

Our Lhasa (a male) loves his immediate family, although he does have his favorites.  He does not like anyone else and we have to keep him on a leash when anyone else is over because he may become aggressive.  He did have some aggression problems with us but when we showed him we were alpha his aggression towards us completely disappeared.  He is very intelligent, playful, and fairly obedient.  He prefers to be by our side every minute but is content to be left home alone.  He knows the rules and follows them well.

I have 3 lhasa apsos.  I absolutely love them BECAUSE of their independent nature.  They are very loveable, but certainly have their own mind.  If you are planning to have children, I would not recommend this breed.  They do not seem to get along well with little children, especially if they were part of the family BEFORE the baby!

I know a horrible family with 23 lhasa apsos.  They are the most vicious horrible dogs I've ever seen.  I don't know if its just this particular family (puppy mill), but they bite people, destroy everytrhing in the house, and none of them have been potty trained.
I wouldn't recommend a lhasa apso to my worst enemy.

we have an 8 year old female-our kids were 11 and 12 when we got her, which turned out to be a good age-she can be very protective of her space and will growl and show her displeasure if she doesn't want to do something-she's a good watch dog, but intolerant of the kids' friends even if she is familiar with them-she'll try and bite feet if you move just wrong! so definitely not a good breed for anyone with young children.

I have a llasa. He is 16 years old and crazy as the day is long.  I love him to death -- he can be as sweet as pie and is very loyal.  He is also soooo cute.  But, he can be agressive (you must let him know who is boss) and has bitten people.  He wants all our attention and if things doesn't go his way -- look out.  He is protective of children, but he gets tired of them quickly.  We have two other dogs; he gets along well with them (he is the alpha dog).  I would be VERY cautious about getting one.  As much as I love my llasa, and hopes he lives to be 20, when he dies I won't get another llasa.  He is one of a kind.

I have had my apso for over 4 years. He's been great especially with the kids! I have a 6 and 2 yo and they absolutely love him.

Recently I've added a young staffy pup into the mix and the apso seems to be keen to show his dominance over the young pup.
