I have a 20 month old male rottweiler that is very high strung.
When I get home in the evening - all he wants to do is play, play and play which usually last for about 4 hours. He does not sit down for a minute, unless he is occupied with chewing on his bone.
Is this common behavior and will he settle down soon?
Even though I enjoy his playfull behavior I'm concerned he is hyperactive.

Just wondering if you exercise him enough?  He sounds like he needs at least 2 45 minute walks every day.  Also, if he is crate trained, you can put him in there with a toy or treat until he calms down.  He will learn to play nicely after a while.  Play with him for 20 minutes, crate him for 10 or 20 minutes, etc.  Good luck, and remember, exercise, exercise!  A tired dog is a good dog.
