My name is LaToya Húnfjörð. I was wondering if you could give me some advice about my son. Let me start from the beginning. I'm married to Icelander. I'm an american. We were married on April 5th, 1999 in Campbellsville, KY. We lived in Campbellsville until August 12th, 2002. We have a son who is 2 1/2 years old and a little girl who is two months old.
We moved to Iceland in August 2002. I found out I was pregnant at the end of September. After finding this out, things started going down hill. I chose to come home (with my son) in October 2002. After returning home I started school. I tried this for a while. So, my husband I decided that he would keep our son until I gradated. Which would of been in April. Well, I had to take a leave of absent from school because I was having complication with my pregnancy. In May 2003, I found out that our daughter had a cyst on her brain. Our daughter stayed in the hospital for three weeks. She was born on April 18th, we did not go home until May 11th (Mother's Day). Even after all this, my husband says that he will not return my son. Can he do this?
I have more to say but will explain as we correspond.

Listen here Feminazi Jen, The father has just as many rights as the mother does too!  The father can just as easily take her to court to fight for the son... keep in mind, there's two sides to every story... I wonder what the father would say in response to LaToya's post?!?!?

ok, ok everybody.  Please take LaToya'ssituation seriously.

LaToya, PLEASE get an attorney as soon as possible if you have not already done so.  Are you still a US citizen?  Is your son also a US citizen?  I am not an attorney, but I have been through a custody battle once before.  My situation was different in that we all resided in the same city at least.  That was difficult enough, i cannot imagine going through what you are going through.

You need legal advice, you should even check with the US Embassy in Iceland.  Immigration here in the US would also be a good resource.

Do not wait around, DO SOMETHING.  Also, please put your emotions aside when speaking to your husband.  Talk to him with as much composure as possible and try to reason.  You are both adults.  Act like it.

Be brave! There is a Person who sees everything. Don't forget that! Pray for your son, ask from your friends to do the same and do what the law allows you.But remember that it is not only your own fight. We are weak to fight alone.Don't forget God. Only He can help you at this moment. Believe in it!
